A Sustainable Life in Ozamiz

Sustainability comprises of many aspects - development, employment, income, resources.

How is "SUSTAINABILITY" present in Ozamiz?

We cannot deny the fact that Ozamiz City is just a very small city compared to the other cities in the Philippines and it has only a few tourist attractions. However, it never failed to maintain and sustain its environment together with the benefits it gave to the residents.

Part from the development undergone by the city, local residents were given the opportunity to earn a living. Caretakers and street cleaners of public areas were given wages. Candle vendors were allowed to sell their candles to whoever person who visits Cotta shrine and other food vendors are permitted to sell their products along the beach. This form of tourism activity is quiet very sustainable since it was not able to affect the livelihood of the people involved.

Another sustainable development that happened in the city is that, people living in the squatter areas were transferred to a certain place. But, it was never a problem to them since they were provided with housing already. In that manner, those people were not ignored by the government, rather, they are of priority.

Talking about the sustainability in line with the religious activities, it is also present in Ozamiz. In some regions, the elder people find it very hard to retire in their roles in the church since no youth is interested to take over the responsibility. But in our city, it was not a problem. There is eagerness found in the youth to grab the opportunity given to them by the elders. It may not be that easy but from time to time, youth leaders in the were to gather other teens to serve and offer themselves to the people in service to God.

Sustainability can be easily achieved when there is willingness. Willingness to take responsibility. Willingness to take an action. And willingness to sacrifice.
